Submitting to film festivals

We start submitting to film festivals in June :) and it will take a few months to see if we get into any cool festivals. We have decided to premiere the movie in early October of 2010. Sorry for the long wait. It's driving us crazy too. But the movie does begin on Halloween and it feels like a mortal sin to premiere Brainwashed Love in the summer when Halloween is right around the corner. Of course everyone is invited to the L.A. premiere. We're going to try to get a venue where we can have an open invitation. We would love to do the same in Columbus Ohio and New York City so if you wanna help us book a venue that would be terrific.

Finally the Brainwashed Love Teaser Trailer. Brainwashed Love is the first feature film of Shawn Bannon & Alix Large. I’m happy to present to you the first trailer for Brainwashed Love. I edited the trailer myself (Shawn Bannon) and considering I used to edit trailers for a living I just kept thinking to myself over and over again that I could do whatever I wanted with the Brainwashed Love trailer. So my goal was to have it represent the movie faithfully but to have fun with it at the same time. After watching the trailer you can tell if Brainwashed Love is your cup of tea. Please enjoy.

Arrested, out of Jail, but now we’re back to work

We got ourselves arrested a few days before Christmas in Columbus Ohio. Luckily we escaped with the help of some friends, we hitched through Virginia and ran through North Carolina dined in Georgia and hid out in Mississippi for a few days. Got arrested again, almost had to go to Parchman but proved our innocence. Well that and the witnesses all mysteriously disappeared. Now we are out of jail and back to work on Brainwashed Love. We had a long delay on the Trailer which will be going up this week. So whens the premiere? It’s coming soon.

Brainwashed Love Getting Close...

We’re not 100% done but we are getting closer and closer to locking our edit. I know we said we would lock the edit in early November but we’re still finessing the movie and we added a couple of new shots. We’ve had two test screenings and gotten some really encouraging feedback. We’re being as resourceful as humanly possible to make this the best movie we can. Our budget is razor thin so everyone who gets involved with Brainwashed Love has made a huge impact. We thank all of you who have helped us out. We’re still on track for having our first screening in early 2010. So please check back.

Brainwashed Love Final Cut

We had our first test screening on October 1st, 2009. The screening went very well and was invaluable to the production. We have shot additional coverage since our screening and we’ve fine tuned the edit several times, we are very close to our final cut. We’ll have one more test screening in the next 2 weeks. Then we’re locking the edit in early November with a target premiere date in early 2010. Once we lock the edit in November we’ll be focusing on sound design and color correction. But the important thing as of this moment is we have a complete film that we are extremely proud of. Thanks to all of you who have helped us out along the way. There is no way this movie could of been made without the passion, the help and encouraging advice of our friends and family.

Editing Brainwashed Love

Editing Brainwashed Love is in process. It’s going well but there is a lot of work to be done still. Music and sound design will be started in the next few weeks. Check back for our thoughts on our experience with independent feature filmmaking.

Principal Photography Completed!

It’s been a long journey and an enormous amount of work to get to this point. I want to thank all of you for your hard work and endless dedication to Brainwashed Love. As many of you know, this entire film was paid for out of our own pockets. We had been talking about making a feature for about a year but when we both lost our jobs we decided take the little savings we had and sell as much stuff as possible so we could put our ideas into action. Now our bank accounts are empty and our credit cards maxed out but we have shot 20 days of mind-blowingly good footage for our first feature. So here we are enjoying breakfast at Hugo’s the morning after wrapping principal photography. We could not have come this far without all of you and we appreciate your encouragement, commitment and enthusiasm to keep Brainwashed Love on it’s toes. So now we are on to post production and a few days of pick up shots. We’ll keep you up to date every few weeks so please check back and e-mail us if you still want to get involved.

Three weeks of shooting. It’s been a lot of work and a lot of fun. Thank you for all of your help. One solid week of shooting left. Thank you for putting in the countless hours and endless nights to make Brainwashed Love an awesome movie. There are a lot more photos on the way so please take a look back soon. Coolest Cinematographer & Editor

My fellow Cal Arts friends have come through to push Brainwashed Love to a higher level. As many of you know, this is a self-financed film that depends entirely on the work of all involved. When you collaborate with top notch talent, it pushes you to work that much harder. Everyone’s hard work and commitment is making this production exceed our wildest dreams. Thanks to everyone for struggling through the sleepless nights, the unloading and loading, and fighting to fit everything into the tiny amount of time we have to finish everything. Thanks to the volunteers who work with us in hot, foggy sets for hours with no reward other than some pizza and soda. Thanks to our extras who danced in masks and coats to the same song on repeat or no song at all. A huge thanks goes to our cinematographer, Helder, for devoting just as much of his life to this project as us, with little to no crew to help him and making everything look mind-blowingly good. And now we have Ally on our team, to do all the grunt work of sifting through the badly slated takes and rendering out days of footage, before she can even work her magic on the edit. We can’t thank you guys enough. You’re amazing.

We start shooting in two weeks and our underpaid cast and crew are gearing up to make an awesome movie. The coolest, the cheapest, the most resourceful, most talented, most artistic crew in America. Most of us have been slaves to the Hollywood hierarchy but we have gathered our supplies, refined our skills, begged our friends, begged our friends friends and now we are ready or ready enough to make a feature film of our own. Where would we be without the excessive amount of garbage left over by the biggest Hollywood blockbusters? Probably nowhere since that’s what we are using to make this film happen. If you have any excess gear call us. We could use a a huge generator and some 18k hmi’s and a technocrane (not really). The number one question we get asked is who are your agents? Who is backing your movie? We are our own agents and we’re funding the film with our own meager savings accounts. We are making the movie we want with the coolest most fun people we know. Now it’s our time to making something totally fun and awesome. Get off your bums and come join our force. We might be hacks but we’re not slackers. We work hard and do insane work.

Our favorite hang out in Los Angeles is now going to be in Brainwashed Love. Pure Luck is our favorite vegan restaurant and we are so happy they are letting us shoot our movie there. If you’re a beer lover go check out their wonderful selection of microbrews. We head over to Heliotrope and Melrose several times a week. Stop by Orange 20 and the Bicycle Kitchen for bikes, and get desert at Scoops. Heliotrope and Melrose, thats where you should go.

We start rehearsing early next week. Monday and Tuesday. Report for duty. The rehearsals will be in Santa Monica. We’ll start posting who we cast in the movie on Thursday June 4th 2009. We are still in the process of casting half the characters so we’ll get back to many of you this week.

Casting Update
Casting should be complete by Wednesday, June 3rd 2009. We’ve been a bit overwhelmed with auditioning actors over the past few weeks but have finally made some key decisions. We have been very fortunate to get extremely talented and dedicated actors involved. We look forward to working with all of you and making Brainwashed Love an amazing movie together.

Casting

Last week we were very pleased and pleasantly surprised to receive over 2,000 head shots, reels and submissions from a wide range and very diverse selection of actors. This is exactly what we needed to get our production running into high gear.

Yesterday we held our first casting session in Hollywood and we were extremely impressed with the talent that showed up. Thank you for bringing our script to life.

The Brainwashed Love script is going through the editing process and is close to a final draft. Copies start to go out to interested cast and crew early next week. We have a handful of locations locked and we just started story boarding the entire movie.

Rehearsals will start in May. If you’ve never acted before but want a small role lets talk. The whole concept of the movie is you don’t have to be great to do what you love. If you want to sing and dance you don’t have to be the best. It’s better to have fun and ignore the countless amount of critics.
